Explorers and altoholics should brace for loregasms once the new Storyteller system hits EverQuest II. Soon to be introduced in this month’s Halas Reborn update, the Storyteller system adds the Storylines tab (seen above) to the quest UI and shows the overarching plots behind each major quest series.
The Storyteller system preview posted at the official EQII website adds:
The Storyteller system consolidates the storylines related to various quest series into a single, easy-to-follow format so adventurers can better keep track of the underlying story being told in their current quests. The storylines window will allow you to see where you are in the storyline related to the quest series you are working on.
It can help by providing hints from previously completed steps, give clues as to where a series starts, as well as help you to pick back up on the series if you’ve been away from it for a while. For those who like to know the story and why they are helping NPC Bob to lay waste to the gnoll population, this will prove highly beneficial.
The Storyteller system has been implemented in the test servers and has gotten a mixed feedback. Some think it’s unnecessary due to the wealth of information already found in EQ2Wikia and other quest helper sites. Resources spent on the new system should have gone to “more pressing issues” like fixing item progression and upping the game graphics.
But two kinds of players–explorers and altoholics–welcomed the Storyteller tab as a great tool for questing. Explorers get a more holistic view of their quests and can check what other storylines they can pursue with a click of the tab. Altoholics can jump right back into the game with little backtracking since they can just click on the storyline name and know immediately their storyline progression.
Quest lines will be limited at launch, SOE said, but assured that missing storylines will be added in the coming months. So sit tight and enjoy the less frequent alt-tabbing while questing.
